here's a funny thought... i have met another photog some time last week & learn dat he is beginning to take up photography & from the D60.. he made the jump to a used D2x.. he is very happy with it. cos its a PRO body & it only cost him lesser than 2K. Then on another incident, i met up with another elderly guy & he too is using the D2x & he swears upon it. he too got a used body for below 2K... then i started to ask myself... is D2x really such a great camera body??

Simply cant wait for any longer & i guess i am impulsive in getting my lens range up to 200mm.
Wanted the 70-200mm VR very badly but its price is just too much, thus my other option was to get the Sigma 70-200. But then after speaking to Leslie abt the sigma, he strongly reccomend me that i could spent half the amount & get a lens dats jus as good (if not better & sharper). its the 4th gen of the nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 lens. its non VR & it starts from 80mm rather than 70mm BUT its for half the price!!

After hearing from him, i got back to office & check on reviews on this lens. there are quite alot of good reviews on it & comparing to the 70-200 VR. it has lesser fall-off & no or little vignette issue. & this really seems like a great catch for half the price!

then i made a few calls to the usual shops dat i frequent to check the pricing.. indeed, this lens is abt 1.2K cheaper. so i headed down to the shop with the lowest quote & the rest is pretty much history...

the Nikkor AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED... is mine!

alright.. now is the time to Stop Buying & Start Shooting!!! =)

my Domke "F-4AF PRO SYSTEM BAG"...

i had wanted to get the domke bag since last mth.. & after checking it out at my local retail store i was totally drawn back by the price tag. the F-4AF cost about $300 bucks! gosh.. i can get a crumpler+lowepro or a thinktank+lowepro with that amount of $$.

then i learnt abt domke clones a week ago & started to ask friends about it. some mentioned TK has it.. while another said that OP has it. neway, i did not really spent effort to check with those stalls to enquire if they have it. and so happen that i went to CWS last friday to get the remote shutter trigger then i casually asked the guy there if they have the domke clone. he gladly showed me a bag which looked so much like the domke F2!! The bag seems pretty low & jus to wide for my liking & i din't really like the black+sand color combo. it cost only $75!!! shocking right haha.. the brand is not domke but its safrotto.

Anyway it did not really bother me until on the next day after watching a movie & i din know wat to do.. then the thought of popping by CWS to take a look at the bag & see if they have sumthing taller & less wide, plus fully black in color. when i reach CWS, the guy who served me the day before knew instantly why i am back at the stall! he was smiling to me when i walked up to him & told him the F2 clone was just not ideal enuff.. i want sumthing like an F3X. his eyes instantly brighten & replied me.. "yes yes i have!" & for the rest of the story, i tink i can simply stop here & show-off the pic of my new domke clone bag!

this is actually almost the same as the Domke F-4AF Pro. jus that the padding in this clone is much thicker than the real domke. its actually a plus point.. i feel more "padded" & secured.

well so in the end i kindda saved over $200 bucks getting a clone domke.

Tested the Tamron 17-35 WIDE Lense on this brief walk along the SG River.

Verdict: This lense is worth its value. Budget & decent. This is a daytime/outdoor lense & its pretty sucky for niteshoot if w/out tripod. yeah i wasn't carrying a tripod, thus the pics are rather blur.

i can go WIDE now...

latest additional to my lense collection for my D700 is the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D. but why f1.8 & not 1.4? haha cos i am on budget, a f1.4 will cost almost $400 for a 2nd hand & i jus want a 50mm prime for the sake of "having it handy".

well & on top of this i realized that i have heaps of 52mm HOYA filters left to me from the fSLR days. i still have the skylight(11B), cir-polarizer, softerner, 4pt cross-star, orange (UV), blue(UV), blue grad, haze & even the 3+ close-up. gosh i din realized i had so many 52mm filters stashed in my dry cabi! LOL.

Neway stay tune for more 50mm shots in the near future.

Finally have time to post up some nite shoot pics, been lazing around & hunting for camera gears & stuffs. And also enjoyed the long weekend vesak holiday (monday is "payback" for the Sat's vesak day.. heehee)

Well neway, i finally found time to select some pics which i took from the casual niteshoot i did last tuesday. Have posted it up in my flickr. Comparing to the old nikon D70 i had, this new camera is simply off the chart in my expectation! (haha of cos lah.. this camera is 3x more ex than the old one..)

i am still trying to figure out this camera's features & i belief i will be able to maximize its potential! Haha.. i wanna be able to take awesomely nice pics in time to come!!!

This shot of the merlion was rather fantastic to me back then but now looking at it, it does seems pretty bad. LOL, perhaps i tink i can do better with the D700 now.

So most likely i am gonna do the Fullerton/Merlion/Esplanade route again & try out on the D700 & see how's the result this time.

Jus got a new cam, so naturally i wanna shoot sumthing & see the results, was wreaking my brains on where to go shoot.. tot of the usual raffles/esplanade route & felt super reluctant. then was tinking of changi.. but sianz. Then i did some search on the web on places to go & while surfing.. i recall there's this really old & last kampong in SG. Some claim its the last kampong in SG & yeah.. many curious folks have been flocking to it to see & get the kampong lifestyle feel.

So i decided.. haha why not? i have never been there. At least sumthing new to see before it gone.

Thus me & my GF, Landy, woke up early the next morning & prep my gear for this shoot & i gear Landy up with the Oly-510 while i take my new "mistress", the Nikon D700. Hiak hiak..

Kampong Lorong Buangkok is located very near to Woodbridge Hospital. if u are keen to find out how to get there, lemme know. i will share the info with u. Ok 'nuff of blabbering..

The weather is hot in the day, in the intense heat.. we "clered" the whole village in 2hrs & left the Kampong & headed for lunch.

Next stop is Marina Barrage... hear all the hype abt it when it opened. many people found it to be utterly boring & nothing to see. jus some water features & water works..

yah.. i finally gave in to the 'itch' & on 1st may, i totally gave in to the "DARK SIDE".

as you guys know, i have been itching for almost 9mths to a new DSLR camera. 1st was tinking of the 5Dmk2 & then i thought to save some money & thought of the D90.. but somehow i didnt want a mid range camera & started aiming for the D3. LOL.. the price is crazy for the D3, almost S$7k. so i drop a step back & seriously started to tink abt the D700.

Well, after reading tonnes of reviews & feedback for the past 2 weeks.. my urge grew stronger. I WANT THE D700, i told myself!!!

Then last evening, i pop-by to John 3:16 at abt 7pm, wanting to get some feedback & advise from leslie & sam. but these 2 chaps (yeah i have known them for abt 17yrs oredi) were as usual jus too darn busy. didn't really have time to chat with me. So i left the shop & tinking in my mind... i'll come back another day...

Heehee.. & on the next day (which is today, 1st May 2009), i finally decided. YES i am gonna get it! Went down to John's at abt 5pm & hang ard the shop until abt almost 7pm, then i finally.. finally.. finally got the D700! yeah the DAMAGE is done! & wat else i got??.. LOL, i'll show you!

The sweetest standard Zoom Lens from Nikon, too bad no VR on this, but its constant f2.8 from 24mm to 70mm.

To me this is the awesome walkabout lens for almost any situation.

Then i mounted up the lens & screw in the batt grip..

this beast is soooo mean looking! looks jus like the D3! hahaha

& to spice up this "beastly" feel, i setup my good old CT4 flash to it!

now its lagi "Fricking MEAN" looking! haha dun ask me the weight. i tink its almost like 3kg++ in this setup..

gosh i am so delighted to be back in the Dark side again. this means More Damage on my pocket pretty soon... (oredi eyeing on the 14-24mm f2.8, bloody $2.8k)

Well, for now i am totally overjoyed with this new TOY! Looking forward to go out & shoot once the batteries are charged!

gosh, haven been updating for days due to heavy work load & being too tired after work. guess its the 'dry spell' hitting me again.

neway.. it hasn't been the best days for me in the past few days, totally pissed with every thing & super-duper grumpy. not sure wats really going on in my mind & i ain't dunno share too much of this here.

i jus hope that the decision that was made is worth it. the current outcome is drastic & not ideally wat i had hoped for, but wat else can i do? back off sushi.. back off... jus dun create more trouble.

its been a long day! 8 straight hours of shoot & it totally drain me out again... die lah.. liddat if go australia ICT i sure die one... T_T

oh well, sumthing abt today's shoot, we had a change of studio & gosh, its a total nitemare! the place is so fricking cramp & messy. it looks more like a store room than a studio. Really horrible. its situated at Pennisular Shopping Centre 2nd floor. the boss has a very rude habit of burping extremely loudly once every hour! & his wife, who watching some cantonese soap opera drama on their tiny 14" CRT TV, giggles & laffs in a very weird manner when the show is funny. Reminds me of some hysterical hyenas from ACME cartoon!!

& then at least the model is nice, she's call Gizela (i tink), she's from spain & she's been staying in SG for almost 2yrs!!! woah! Best of all is she lives by herself in some "amg moh chu"... Damnz man! such a big earner meh? Appearance wise, she's not really the super sweet type & is totally not the long hair dream girl kind. BUT! she does looks like a doll from the 70s!! especially with her short hair! she has excellent complexion!

Neway, i will post up the photos when the Event is launched for Reebonz next week!

as mention from the blog i posted a few days ago. i have got the Gateway netbook & i was scouting for a cool sticker/decal to cover up the manufacturer's logo on the netbook.

well here's what i got! ^ ^

Although i am not a super fan of Transformers, but i have always enjoyed the cartoon since i was a kid.

Alrite, as for why i choose this insignia & why its not the Official Transformers logo of Autobots & Decepticon.. cos when i saw it, i instantly fell for it at 1st sight! LOL. Neway i did some digging on the history of this insignia... & here's wat i got from wiki:

The G2 Autobot symbol seems clearly based on Optimus Prime. In the Marvel Comics continuity this change may have occured since the Last Autobot had come and gone.

Then there's this:

hv been so busy since i got back from JKT last week.
cam back on wednesday.. then back to office on thursday & started working on the *****'s websites' chinese version. then after dat, went for meeting at noon.

thank goodness, for the long weekend last week. i really did pampered myself. LOL. went Expo on good friday with the intention of accompaning my GF to do some John Little shopping but ended up popping my nose into the Courts' MEGATEX Fair. Every damn shit at MEGATEX was on sale... 42" LCD at 50% discount, 1Tb Ext HDD at S$159, 32" LCD TV going at below S$700!!

of cos i didn't needed all those except i was so fricking itchy to upgrade my Ext HDD, but i guess i will wait for the 2Tb. Then while walking some more, i saw another incredible offer! Gateway netbook going for just S$499!!! Damnz! Its utterly tempting! (cos i was looking ard for one dats below S$500) & i told myself i will surely get it if its below S$500.

LOL... & so, i hop over to Acer & HP to do some price & specs comparison. Acer's specs is almost similar to the Gateway's but cost abt 600, whereas, HP's mini also cost abt $600 but with a just lower spec (16Gig Flash HDD, i tink)

Oh well... seems like the choice is pretty much set on the Gateway! 1.6Ghz Atom, 1Gig Ram, 160Gig HDD, WIFI, 8.9" screen & pre-installed with WinXP HOME (sucks!)

& finally, YES! i bought it. & since then my long weekend was spending time on installing all the proggies i needed & i went to AH Boy's shop to scout for some cool decals/sticker to doll up the netbook.

well i did get an awesome sticker to 'hide' the Gateway logo on the netbook.. haha, you could never guess wat sticker. nope its not an APPLE logo. i will post some pics very soon..

in less than 4 hours i will be making my way on the return flight back to SG. this Jakarta trip has been a very rush but yet fruitful trip. i met my team of awesome designers & had a very good & in-depth conversation with everyone of them. i am looking forward to work with them much closer & get to know them more. =)

overall i love the JKT office. hahaa.. really dun mind moving here to work. LOL.

This 2nd photo session was just 4hrs, pretty short & i covered abt 20 sets of apparels. the russian model, Natasha, was so fun to work with, & damnz... She's good too! Looking forward to work with her again next time!

Well this session i no longer have the luxury of shooting with the 5DMk2, instead i used a NEW Canon 50D + EF 24mm f/1.4L USM lens. Well i must say.. "I Simply Love this lens!" yah.. ONLY love the lens & not the 50D body, cos 50D's handling is not as fluid as the 5DMk2.

here's a snap shot of "ahem" (cannot tell u who he is, but he's having fun posing as the photographer during the strobe testing)

Gonna do my 2nd fashion-glam shot session for Reebonz website later at 10am. seems like these sessions are doing great for my photography portfolio! tml's session is only gonna be half a day, jus 20 apparels, not sure Tops or Bottoms. neway, there will only be 1 model for tml's session. lets hope she's good at wat she does, then i will have an easier time, clicking that shutter...

well, i jus hope to start early & end early. cos i still have heaps of stuffs on my workdesk to clear.

Blame it on this, blame it on that... guess its not the "Leh-man Bros" who impacted the world econony & ignited the global downturn afterall. There already have been 'warning signs' since 2001-2005, where questions were raised concerning about 'a possible economy slide'. But the US Treasury showed little concern & responses were not significant. (total pig head!)

Well, its no point crying over spilled milk now. All of us just have to suffer & hope we will be able to ride over this crisis...

i have been procrastinating for pretty long, if i shud take up some part-time course to "upgrade" myself. But then again... i guess its the course fee dat puts me off everytime. It seems like being having only the skills in design is jus not enuff for me. sometimes i really wish i am better & BETTER. A fren did ask me, why do i need a degree since i oredi have a masters in design? i can't answer him, but i do feel the need to have sumthing different from design. Sumthing more relevant that i can make use of in "reality".

i do have a few different genre of course in mind.. perhaps marketing? perhaps biz admin? or even take up a psychology course...

neway i hope i can find the heart & determination to make a decision in the next few mths.

Hey, its finally launched after months of planning & effort spent on the changes & mock-ups.

this game is insanely addictive & fun. Patapon 2 is so much more fun & hilarious than the Part 1.
& now my PSP is totally alive & sticking beside me 24/7. haha yeah it was stuck to me for the past 48hrs over the wkend, & oh dear.. tml is moday, back to work, sigh... why does wkends ends so fast?

neway, i strongly recommend anyone out there who has got a PSP to try this game. i promise u will love it!

there are times when one can't seems to grasp the courage to make a decision.

there are also times, where words seems to hide behind the teeth.

there are actions dats needed to be taken, but the hands seems to be locked in the cross-arm position.

if anything matters dat much to a person but no action is being done or said... then does it really matters afterall? if the next minute is gonna be the last 60secs of ur life, will it help to fortify the determination to make that decision?

why does everything seems harder when u care more? why does it becomes more confusing when the intention is so simple?

i cannot recall how tiring it is to do a 1day studio photo shoot, until i did a full day session 2 days ago.. haha.. the last time i did a studio shot was way back in 2005.

neway i am pretty pleased with the results , its not to shabby for a photog hobbist like me.

the 2 hired models were awesome... very pro & very understanding. i jus hope they din tink i was lousy.

neway i will be uploading some of the pics here in the next few days.
btw, i was using the Canon D5Mk2.
